- A gentle amble along the ridge road overlooking the gem that is the
Steenbras river valley. To access this amazing walk one needs only to
walk along the ridge from the Sir Lowrys Pass lookout point. This is
in fact is so called "private" land controlled by the Cape
Town City council. To access this legally one must follow a process
of phone calls. 8592022 will get you Mr May, a very pleasant gentleman
who manages the Area. He cannot give you permission however, he sent
me to the water board offices in Wale st. Cape Town. 4872571 gets you
to Mr Fyfe who controls the permits to gain access to the area, he sees
no problem with handing out a permit to a photographer for a small fee.
I am put through to Mrs van Wyngaard on 4872485. R1500 is a small fee
to pay for a fashion or film production company but for me that's just
a little too rich! No members of the public are allowed on the land
I am told, no exceptions! I am then put through to Mr Huysamen who politely
informs me that if I want to access the area as a member of the public
I should write to the Director of Water services, PO Box 16589, Vlaeberg.
Of course I didn't mention that I intend to set fire to the reserve
and test my explosives skills near the dam wall ;) |
